Diplomats from the Embassy of Uzbekistan held talks with the heads of Malaysia’s largest jewelry companies, the correspondent of ‘Dunyo’ news agency reports.
During the meetings, prospective plans were discussed with Helen Mak, General Manager of Habib Jewels, and Ng Yee Ping, Group Executive Director of Tomei Consolidated Berhad.
The Malaysian side was provided with detailed information on systemic reforms in Uzbekistan’s jewelry industry, particularly regarding the production of locally branded products and their export potential.
Helen Mak expressed interest in establishing practical cooperation with leading Uzbek jewelry companies in a number of areas. During the meeting, the parties agreed to explore the possibility of jointly developing special designs that meet the requirements of the Malaysian market, as well as placing orders for OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) production.
Furthermore, the foreign entrepreneur expressed her willingness to introduce Uzbek jewelers to the company’s retail operations in Malaysia and to hold talks at international exhibitions. Ng Yi Ping, in turn, praised the dynamic development of Uzbekistan’s jewelry industry in recent years. According to him, 20- and 22-karat gold jewelry (833 and 916 karats) is in greatest demand in the Malaysian market. Therefore, the company intends to comprehensively explore the possibility of importing high-karat jewelry from Uzbekistan with designs that suit the tastes of the local market.
Habib Jewels is one of the largest and most well-known jewelry companies in Malaysia. Founded in 1958, it currently operates over 40 jewelry stores throughout the country. In Malaysia, Habib Jewels is considered the most popular and widely represented jewelry brand.
Tomei Consolidated Berhad was founded in 1968. It is currently a fully integrated holding company, operating from jewelry manufacturing to retail. The company has over 50 retail outlets across Malaysia and owns the brands Tomei, MyDiamond, Goldheart and Le Lumiere.
