The presidents of Uzbekistan and Russia launched construction of the first nuclear power plant unit in Uzbekistan

President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin launched construction of the first power unit of the integrated nuclear power plant in Uzbekistan, the press service of the head of our state reports.

The ceremony, held via teleconference, was attended by Rafael Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency.

The head of state expressed gratitude to Vladimir Putin and Rafael Grossi for their personal support and dedication to the implementation of this project. He also thanked the Uzbek and Russian specialists involved in the construction of the first nuclear power plant in our country for their joint work and high professionalism.

It was noted that the implementation of this project marks the beginning of a new stage in the technological, industrial, and scientific development of Uzbekistan, laying the foundation for the development of a new industry – nuclear energy. It combines the latest advances in small-scale nuclear generation and large-scale baseload power generation.

The leader of Uzbekistan emphasized that safety is an absolute and unconditional priority. The plant’s construction and preparation for operation are being carried out based on the most modern international standards, advanced engineering solutions, and under constant IAEA supervision.

Confidence was expressed that the implementation of such a large-scale project and its results will further strengthen the Uzbek-Russian comprehensive strategic partnership and alliance.
