A delegation of Uzbekistan attends the meeting of IMF and WB

A delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister Jamshid Kuchkarov and Chairman of the Central Bank Mamarizo Nurmuratov took part in two main events of the spring meetings: the 45th meeting of the Board of Governors of the International Monetary and Financial Committee of the IMF and the 105th meeting of the Board of Governors of the Development Committee of the World Bank Group.

In addition, at the special invitation of the World Bank management, Jamshid Kuchkarov took part as a speaker in a high-level closed event on the topic “Accelerating Actions to Achieve Food Security and Resilience of Agri-Food Sector”.

As part of the spring meetings, the delegation took part in bilateral meetings with the President of the World Bank Group David Malpass, Executive Director of the International Monetary Fund Kristina Georgieva, Vice President of the World Bank Group for Europe and Central Asia Anna Berde, Director of the International Finance Corporation Makhtar Diop, Director of the Agency for International Investment Guarantee (MIGA) Hiroshi Matano.

At the same time during the visit:

  • An agreement worth US$100 million was signed between Uzbekistan and the international OPEC fund;
  • An agreement worth 150 million euros  was signed between Uzbekistan and the French Development Agency;
  • An agreement worth US$50 million was signed to finance the World Bank project “Strengthening the Capacity of the Statistical System in Uzbekistan”;
  • Debt agreements were signed with the World Bank to allocate concessional funds in the amount of 200 million US dollars to finance the project “Development of Rural Entrepreneurship (Phase 2)”.
  • An agreement was signed with an international financial corporation to support the development of wind power stations in the republic.

In addition, within the framework of these meetings, negotiations were held with more than 20 international financial institutions, investment banks and rating agencies.
