Saudi Arabia Plans to Expand Cooperation with Uzbekistan in the Healthcare Field

A ceremony to sign a Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Direct Investment Fund of the Republic of Uzbekistan and Dr. Sulaiman AL-Habib Medical Group (HGM) (Kingdom of Saudi Arabia) was held as part of the Tashkent International Investment Forum.

HGM is one of the leading private sector healthcare providers in the Middle East. The company manages 18 medical institutions in Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Kingdom of Bahrain.

In accordance with the document, modern technologies will be introduced into the healthcare management system of Uzbekistan in order to digitize and centralize medical data, as well as improve the processes of interaction with patients, including a pilot program to connect a large Tashkent hospital to IT solutions supplied by HMG.

Also, the HMG Medical Academy will be established in Uzbekistan to train and improve the skills of Uzbek medical workers. In addition, up to 10 junior medical staff from Uzbekistan will be sent annually to HMG hospitals in Saudi Arabia for training in order to improve their skills.

The Memorandum also refers to the implementation of a new investment project to create a modern multidisciplinary medical complex in Tashkent in accordance with the standards of HMG clinics and hospitals, equipped with advanced and modern technologies.

The signing ceremony was held in the presence of Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan S.Umurzakov and Minister of Investment of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Khalid al-Falih. The Memorandum was signed by Bekzod Musaev, Minister of Health of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Atabek Nazirov, Director General of the Direct Investment Fund under the Ministry of Investments and Foreign Trade and Dr. Abdulvahab al-Abdulvahab, Chief Operating Officer of HMG.
