Uzbekistan – Kyrgyzstan: progressive expansion of mutually beneficial partnership

Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan S. Umurzakov met with President of the Kyrgyz Republic S. Zaparovich in Bishkek.

During the meeting, issues of developing multifaceted cooperation were considered, primarily in the political, trade and economic, investment, transport and logistics, water and energy, tourism and humanitarian spheres. Mutual commitment was expressed to further expand and deepen multifaceted Uzbek-Kyrgyz relations.

A noticeable increase in the indicators of mutual trade was noted: over the past 5 years, the volume of trade between Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan has grown 5 times and in 2021 reached $950 million. It was announced that at present there are all prerequisites for bringing the volume of mutual trade to $2 billion, in connection with which it is necessary to strengthen work to strengthen ties between the business circles of the two countries.

Also, significant progress is being observed in the investment sector. In this context, the parties welcomed the official opening of the Uzbek-Kyrgyz Development Fund, designed to become a catalyst for the growth of investment partnership between the two states.

In addition, the meeting participants exchanged views on the most pressing issues on the agenda of bilateral cooperation and voiced a number of proposals for further intensification of intergovernmental and interdepartmental cooperation in order to accelerate the promotion of joint projects and initiatives and promptly resolve existing issues.

Following the meeting, an agreement was reached on intensifying joint efforts to further build up partnership in all considered areas, as well as the high-quality and timely implementation of existing agreements.
