On June 29, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with a World Bank delegation led by Antonella Bassani, Vice President for Europe and Central Asia, who was in Uzbekistan to participate in the Swiss Group meeting of the Bank’s founding countries, the press service of the head of our state reports.
Antonella Bassani conveyed sincere greetings and good wishes from World Bank President Ajay Banga to the head of state.
The parties discussed the full-scale development of strategic cooperation with the World Bank Group in the priority areas of structural reforms being implemented in New Uzbekistan.
The unprecedented level of bilateral interaction and constructive partnership with this global financial institution achieved in recent years was noted with deep satisfaction.
The high-level agreements reached with the Bank’s President in New York last September are being consistently implemented.
The joint project portfolio has exceeded $15 billion. The Bank’s regional office is successfully operating in Tashkent. New financing instruments are being effectively implemented.
The importance of thorough preparation for upcoming visits by the Bank’s senior management and joint events this year was emphasized.
Plans to develop a new long-term Country Cooperation Program in the most pressing areas of socioeconomic development were supported.
Particular attention was paid to expanding the use of the Bank Group’s instruments to support the development of small and medium-sized enterprises, implement poverty reduction measures, jointly promote state-owned enterprise privatization programs, and implement artificial intelligence in economic sectors.
Close cooperation in water sector financing, human capital development, and assistance in improving Uzbekistan’s position in global rankings were also noted as priorities.
