The Presidential Palace in Ljubljana hosted talks between the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and the President of the Republic of Slovenia Nataša Pirc Musar in a narrow format and with the participation of official delegations, the press service of the head of our state reports.
At the beginning of the meeting, the head of our state thanked the leader of Slovenia for the warm welcome and emphasized that the first summit at the highest level in 20 years will go down in history as the beginning of a new stage in relations between the two countries.
The current issues of further development of practical cooperation between Uzbekistan and Slovenia were discussed.
The intensification of political dialogue, contacts at various levels and business meetings was noted with satisfaction. Mutual support is provided within the framework of the UN and other international structures.
In recent years, trade turnover has increased threefold. Cultural and tourist exchanges are expanding. A visa-free regime is in effect for citizens of Slovenia.
In order to give systemicity to bilateral relations, the importance of establishing a regular dialogue at the highest and high levels was emphasized.
Particular attention is paid to the issues of increasing trade turnover and bringing its volumes at the first stage to 500 million euros, primarily due to the expansion of the product range and import substitution.
This concerns the supply of textiles, fruit and vegetable products, mineral fertilizers, copper products and other industrial goods from Uzbekistan, and pharmaceuticals, advanced technologies and equipment from Slovenia.
The possibilities of using the potential of the Slovenian port of Koper as a logistics hub for access to the European Union market will be studied.
Agreements were reached on the adoption of the Industrial Cooperation Program with leading companies in Slovenia, as well as the implementation of projects for the production of modern equipment, industrial and agricultural goods, localization of pharmaceutical production, including those based on honey and medicinal herbs, construction and modernization of energy facilities, etc.
For systemic interaction in the field of labor migration, it was decided to prepare an Agreement on organized labor migration with the development of training and adaptation programs for language, professional skills and labor standards.
The development of tourism, especially in rural and mountainous regions, is identified as a promising area. In the field of education, the parties agreed to sign an agreement on mutual recognition of diplomas and launch joint training programs with the Universities of Ljubljana and Maribor.
In addition, next year, a joint youth Forum of innovative projects will be held in Tashkent with the participation of universities and research centers of the two countries.
In order to strengthen humanitarian exchange, the parties advocated holding cross-cultural Days and Uzbek Cinema Week in Ljubljana.
In order to advance all the objectives set, a decision was made to organize the first meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission in July this year in Ljubljana.
At the end of the meeting, the head of our state invited the President of Slovenia Nataša Pirc Musar to visit Uzbekistan on a return visit at a convenient time.
